Installation of Fountains
Since November, 23 fountains, including jet-sculpted ones, have been placed on the stretch between Terminal 3 and Dhaula Kuan. The Public Works Department (PWD) has utilized spots along roads and empty spaces at traffic intersections for this purpose. Most of the PWD projects have been completed, with some work still ongoing in a few locations. The authorities have paid close attention to fountain design, lighting, and ground cover around the structures to ensure a visually appealing outcome.
Fountains at Key Locations
A total of 14 fountains have been placed in areas around Bharat Mandapam on Mathura Road and Bhairon Marg. These fountains blend in with a walking plaza and a green belt, enhancing their beauty with multi-colored lights. Additionally, three sculpted fountains are being installed on Ring Road near Rajghat and Delhi Gate intersection. Lion and elephant sculptures have also been placed near IGI, along with sculpted fountains at the intersections. In total, the PWD has installed 50 fountains across the city.
Permanent Features for Public Enjoyment
According to a PWD official, these fountains are not just for the G20 Summit but will be permanent features for the public to enjoy. The department is giving final touches to the project to ensure its completion.
Water Supply and Safety Measures
PWD has made different arrangements for supplying water to the fountains. Most of them are using treated water supplied by the Delhi Jal Board through tankers. To address the issue of theft, which has rendered fountains and streetlights useless in the past, security staff have been deployed near the spots to ensure the safety of the installations.
G20 Makeover
The installation of fountains is part of the G20 makeover plan, which includes aesthetic upgradation of key stretches, horticultural overhaul, general cleanliness, and symmetric installation of fountains and lion statues. These initiatives aim to enhance the city’s overall appearance and provide a pleasant experience for visitors.
