Ather Energy, a leading electric scooter manufacturer in India, has teased a new electric model on social media. On Wednesday, CEO Tarun Mehta tweeted a single letter “S” 450 times, which seems to hint at the upcoming launch of a 450S variant of its popular 450X model. With this move, Ather appears to be aiming to compete with Ola Electric, which recently launched its affordable S1 Air electric scooter.
Ather 450X pricing and specs
The Ather 450X is available in two variants – Standard and Pro Pack. The Standard variant is priced at INR 1,71,879 (ex-showroom, Delhi, without subsidies), while the Pro Pack option adds INR 30,364 to the price. The company claims the 450X can offer a range of 146 km on a single charge, while the TrueRange is 105 km.
Competition in the Indian electric scooter market
Ather Energy faces tough competition from Ola Electric in the Indian electric scooter market. Ola has launched three models, with the most affordable being the S1 Air, which is priced at INR 99,999 after a recent price hike of INR 15,000. Ather is likely to enter this same price range with its upcoming model.
Ather 450X’s popularity in India
The Ather 450X is currently one of the most popular electric scooters in India. In April, it was among the top 10 best-selling ICE and electric scooter models in the country. With the launch of the new 450S variant, Ather Energy aims to further strengthen its position in the market.
While it is too early to predict the specifications of the new model, it is expected to offer a similar range and features as the 450X. Ather Energy has not yet announced the launch date for the 450S variant, but the company’s social media post has already generated a lot of excitement among its fans and followers.
