French automaker Citroen is gearing up to introduce a new SUV to the Indian market, rumored to be named the Citroen Basalt, following the success of its previous models, the C5 Aircross and C3 Aircross. Scheduled for a launch in June this year, the Citroen Basalt is currently undergoing testing in India, with spy shots circulating and offering a sneak peek into its design and features.

Contemporary Design with a Coupe-like Silhouette

The Citroen Basalt is expected to break the mold with its distinct coupe design. Front features include a long, sedan-like bonnet with a rear sloping roof that seamlessly connects to the trunk, providing an elegant and streamlined profile.

The vehicle sports large side wheel arches, black highlights around the windows from the A-pillar to the C-pillar, black ORVMs, a black rear bumper, and wrap-around taillights. Although the test model captured in images was a base variant sporting steel wheels, it is anticipated that the final version will offer 15-inch or 16-inch alloy wheels.

Features and Specifications to Look Forward To

The Basalt SUV is positioned to be a technologically advanced vehicle equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless smartphone connectivity, a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, auto-dimming IRVM, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry, push-button start, and ventilated seats. Safety features will not be overlooked, with plans to include six airbags, ISOFIX points, and seat belt reminders as standard across all variants.

Based on the Basalt Vision Concept, the SUV is set to feature forward-facing projector LED headlights, DRLs, fog lamps, a body-colored bumper, and a slim grille adorned with the Citroen logo.

Powertrain Expectations

While Citroen has not disclosed extensive details about the Basalt SUV’s powertrain, it is expected to house a 1.2-liter turbo petrol engine, similar to that in the C3 Aircross, capable of producing 109 BHP and 205 NM of peak torque. The engine options may include both 6-speed manual and automatic transmission units.

The introduction of the Citroen Basalt is highly anticipated, as it promises not only to enhance the driving experience but also to add a touch of French automotive design and innovation to the Indian roads. Keep an eye out for its launch in the upcoming month as Citroen aims to further cement its position in the Indian automotive market.
