Currently, about 7 lakh people live in the Kirari assembly area, where many roads turn into rivers even with light rain due to incomplete sewer lines. The Delhi Jal Board is working to complete the sewer network by October 2026, which will greatly reduce waterlogging.
This drainage master plan is just the first phase of a larger project for Delhi. Future phases will include more drains, sewer lines, and pumping stations in other flood-prone areas of the city.
