The demand for sports utility vehicles (SUVs) in the Indian vehicle market has increased steadily. The SUV has left behind even the entry level hatchback segment. Even first time car buyers have started preferring SUV body type vehicles. Here we are telling you about the upcoming SUVs in India which will cost less than Rs 15 lakh.

Honda Elevate

Honda will finally enter the SUV segment with the new Elevate mid-side SUV. Based on the fifth-generation City platform, the new Honda Elevate will be pitted against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Maruti Grand Vitara and other SUVs. It comes with a new 10-inch touchscreen infotainment screen, semi-digital instrument console, single-pane sunroof and ADAS technology. The SUV gets a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. This engine generates power of 121 PS and torque of 145 Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a CVT.

New Tata Nexon

Tata Motors (Tata Motors) is all set to introduce the new Nexon (Nexon) compact SUV during the festive season, possibly around September to October. The new model has been spied testing on Indian roads several times. It comes with an all-new interior along with significant design changes and a new turbo petrol engine. The styling of the new Tata Nexon is inspired by the new Curve SUV coupe concept. Inside the cabin, the new Nexon gets a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with wireless connectivity, twin-spoke steering wheel and a digital instrument console. It gets a new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine. This engine generates power of 125 PS and torque of 225 Nm. The SUV is also expected to get a dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Citroën C3 Aircross

Citroën will launch the long-awaited C3 Aircross SUV in India by September 2023. The new model will be available in a single variant and in 5-seater and 7-seater layouts. The 7-seater variant will get removable seats in the third row. It gets a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine. This engine generates 110 bhp power and 190 Nm torque, which is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. It is claimed to deliver an ARAI certified mileage of 18.5 kmpl.

Tata Punch EV

Tata Motors is gearing up to launch the electric versions of the Punch, Harrier and Curve SUV coupes before the end of this financial year. The electric version of Punch is expected to be launched before the end of this year. It will be based on the Sigma platform, which is basically a heavily modified version of the Punch hatchback. It is expected to pack a 24 kWh battery pack with a range of around 300 km on a single charge. The Punch EV will compete with cars like the Citroen eC3.

Toyota Urban Cruiser

Toyota is gearing up to launch a new sub-4-metre SUV, which will be based on the Maruti Fronx crossover. Its name is likely to be Urban Cruiser Taisor (Urban Cruiser Taser), as Toyota has recently trademarked this name in India. The Toyota Taser will be pitted against the Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger and the Hyundai Xtor. It will be offered with two engine options – a 1.2-litre DualJet petrol and a 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo petrol. It will get the option of both manual and automatic gearbox.


New Hyundai Creta

Hyundai will launch the significantly updated Creta SUV in the first half of 2024. The new model will come with completely new front and rear styling along with several India-specific changes. The cabin will get an all-new dashboard layout and will share commonalities with the Verna sedan. It will also come with ADAS technology and a new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. It will be offered with 3 engine options – a 115 bhp, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a 116 bhp, 1.5-litre turbo diesel and a third 160 bhp, 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine.

Kia Sonet Facelift

The Korean automaker will introduce the new Sonet facelift in the country early next year. The new model will get design changes in line with the new Seltos. Significant changes are also expected in the cabin. It is reportedly reported to get segment-first ADAS technology with 7 features. It will retain the existing engine options including 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.0-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre turbo diesel.

Mahindra XUV300 Facelift

Mahindra is working on an updated version of the XUV300 compact SUV, which will be launched in the Indian market in 2024. The new model will get design changes and a significantly updated interior. It is likely to get a new touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument console and a new dashboard layout. Panoramic sunroof will also be available in the SUV. It will be offered with the same 1.2-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine options.

Tata Curvev

Tata Motors will launch the new Curve SUV coupe in the first half of 2024. The new model will be offered with internal combustion engines (ICE) as well as electric powertrains. It is based on the Sigma architecture and will be positioned against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and other cars in the range. The electric version is likely to get a battery pack of around 40-50kWh and a claimed range of over 400 km on a single charge.
