New Delhi’s Green War Room Begins Operations to Tackle Winter Pollution
New Delhi’s Green War Room, established by the Delhi Government, will start functioning from today to effectively tackle and monitor pollution during the winter season in the capital. The Green War Room will operate 24X7 from October 3rd, aiming to provide relief to the people of Delhi from severe pollution.
The Delhi government has launched a 15-point action plan to combat air pollution during the winter season. The plan emphasizes the need to address dust pollution and open burning of garbage. Specific action plans have been devised for each of Delhi’s 13 air pollution hotspots based on real-time data received from 40 air quality monitoring stations in the capital.
What is Green War Room?
The Green War Room, launched by the Arvind Kejriwal government in 2020, is equipped with the latest technologies to control pollution. It comprises air quality monitoring equipment and a team of experts, including scientists and data analysts. The Green War Room monitors various factors contributing to air pollution in Delhi and works in conjunction with the Winter Action Plan of the Delhi Government. A dedicated team of 12 members has been formed to ensure the effective operation of the Green War Room.
How Does the Green War Room Work?
The Green War Room of the Delhi Government monitors the pollution situation in Delhi using satellite data. It analyzes satellite data related to farm fires in neighboring states, pollution levels, and severity based on the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). Additionally, the Green War Room is connected to the Green Delhi app, allowing citizens to report pollution-related complaints and incidents of garbage burning. The War Room will also enforce guidelines to combat dust pollution at demolition sites, ready-mix concrete plants, and instances of garbage burning in Delhi.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal highlights that the winter action plan focuses on effective implementation of measures such as stubble burning control, dust pollution reduction, curbing industrial emissions, banning firecrackers, tree plantation, and following the graded response action plan. The implementation of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) for pollution control in Delhi-NCR has already begun, with stricter enforcement of the ban on old vehicles when the Air Quality Index (AQI) crosses 200.
